ABOUT THE EVENT
We invite you to join us for an open conversation with philosopher and writer Boris Shoshitaishvili, whose work brings fresh insight into the concept of the noosphere—the planetary sphere of human thought. Building on his thoughtful N2 2024 presentation, Boris will explore the evolving narratives that shape our understanding of human consciousness, global inequality, and planetary politics.
Boris’s talk at N2 2024, "The Hemispheric Nous: Making Global Distinctions Against the Backdrop of the Noosphere," reflected on the legacy of Teilhard de Chardin and Vladimir Vernadsky’s vision of the noosphere as a unifying planetary force. He traced how their mystical-scientific optimism has been challenged by 21st-century realities such as climate change, disinformation, and geopolitical fracture. Rather than abandoning the idea of the noosphere, Boris proposes we reimagine it as a contested and pluralistic space—one that acknowledges global fissures and resists simplistic, linear narratives of progress.
In this AMA, we’ll explore questions like: – What role does narrative play in shaping planetary consciousness? – How can frameworks like the Global South vs. Global North inform a more just vision of the noosphere? – What does it mean to think politically at the scale of the Earth?
Whether you're interested in the Earth sciences, globalization, or collective identity, this AMA offers a chance to engage directly with a leading thinker in the field.
Bring your questions, reflections, and curiosity. All are welcome.
